GBM Extraordinary General Meeting on December 14, 2009

The GBM Extraordinary General Meeting was held in Kuala Lumpur on 14 Dec 2008 to make a decision on whether to register Girls' Brigade Malaysia with the Registrar of Youth under the Youth Societies and Youth Development Act 2007.  37 GB companies were represented and with other Exco members, a total of 43 votes were taken.

Joining ROY

There was a proposal from the Exco and GB Sabah also put forth a proposal.

  1. From Exco:  it was to join the ROY and comply with the Act: members will be from 15 to 40 years old, who have voting rights and can hold office; girls below 15 will be affiliate members.  Officers above 40 will not be members, some can be advisors, others instructors, etc.  A Constitution was drawn up
  2. GB Sabah presented a paper to propose that GBM remains under the ROS or Registrar of Societies.

After some debate and explanation from our legal adviser, a vote was taken whether to join the ROY or not.  The outcome was 36:7 in favour of joining the ROY.

Formation of Girls' Brigade Alumni Association Malaysia (GBAAM)

The second item that was discussed was the formation of the Girls' Brigade Alumni Association Malaysia (GBAAM).  The membership will include former members of GB (full members) and others (Associate members).  This was accepted.

So, at the conclusion of the GBM EGM, another meeting was held: the inaugural  General Meeting of the GBAAM.  After the preamble, the draft Constitution was discussed and accepted.  There was election of Office Bearers for the Pro-Tem Committee.
