REPORT ABOUT THE
GB ASIAN GAMES
The Asian Games 2005 started on 2nd December
2005 (Friday) and ended on 4th December 2005
(Sunday). The camp site is located at Sembawang,
BB & GB camp site, Singapore. On the very first
day, we had an early breakfast at the canteen.
The next activity held is a simple briefing
about the rules and regulations for the camp. A
brief introduction about girls and officers from
different countries was also done by the
committee members. Later, we had a briefing for
the banner competition at the court. Soon after,
all the girls in different teams were
brainstorming for a creative idea to decorate
their banner. 10 minutes later, all group
members were busy painting and drawing on the
cloth provided with colourful paints. The group
with the most meaningful and creative banner
will win this competition. The girls were also
asked to think of a cheer for their own group.
The banner competition ended 2 hours later and
magnificent banners were produced. After lunch,
the official opening of this Asian Games began.
Everyone dressed in their national GB t-shirts
and assembled at the multi purpose hall and
waited for the opening ceremony to begin. After
that, we had an ice-breaking session at the
court field. The main purpose of this event is
getting to know each other. We had a lot of fun
time together and after this event finished, we
were given a break of free time. Around 7.30 in
the evening, the committee members planned games
at the park opposite the camp site. The games
were very interesting and we all had a fantastic
time there. Around 9.00 p.m., it was the end of
that programme and we did some area cleaning,
showering and soon, it was bedtime.
The second day started with breakfast and
devotion. We had another ice-breaking at the
court and later, we had the briefing for
resilience trail. The resilience trail was held
at the training rim, staircase, open spaces,
corridor and auditorium. Groups were supposed to
collect clue and a piece of puzzle from each
station. After the whole programme had finished,
we were asked to put the puzzle together and
prepare a sketch for the next event. In the
afternoon, we had more challenging event. The
first one is nuke the castle and later we had a
telematch. In the evening, we were all exhausted
and tired. After dinner, we had a culture night
at the multi purpose hall. Girls from each
country were supposed to dress in their cultural
costume and present an item for the night. The
girls from Philippines performed their country’s
dance and it was very amazing. It was really an
open eye for us since we never seen their dance
before. Team from Malaysia performed a singing
and dancing in their colourful costume. The
girls from Singapore also did a singing and
dancing performance. The culture night came to
an end around 10.30p.m. Since it was the last
night, some girls had photo sessions with their
lovely friends from different countries. Some
even sat around at the camp site and chat with
their friends till it was very late at night.
On the last day, we had a chapel worship service
in the seminar room. We heard sharing from
officers from Philippines and Malaysia. Their
sharing touched our heart and we are very
blessed to have such officers serving for the
Girls’ Brigade. Next was the highlight for the
day, the prize presentation ceremony. Every one
who participated in the Asian Games received a
medal because we all are winners. Later on, we
had the closing ceremony for this Asian Games
2005. After that, we cleaned up our hostel and
had lunch. A group photo session was held at the
car park too. Soon, the air was filled with
sadness as we need to depart soon. Many
friendships were built during this 3 days 2
night’s camp and we all were sad because we will
have to leave each other soon. Sooner or later,
it was home sweet home. Some girls had tears in
their eyes when each group departed off. They
waved as hard as they could to say goodbye to
their friends.
Getting a chance to go to Singapore to attend
this Asian Games is fabulous. Through this 3
days 2 nights camp, I met a lot of new friends
from my own country, Malaysia, Singapore and
also from the Philippines. I learnt more about
cultures and living lifestyle of people in
different places from the other Girls’ Brigade
girls. The girls from Singapore and Philippines
are very friendly, generous and hardworking.
Thus, I had a lot of fun making friends with
them throughout this camp. Besides that, through
the telematch and all the activities prepared, I
learnt and understood more about team spirit.
Team spirit is the most important and valuable
“item” that we all must have when completing
tasks. It enables tasks to be done perfectly.
This spirit helped me to grow and be a more
cooperative and matured person. Overall, this is
a very educational and fun camp. I’m very
grateful and glad that I was able to participate
in this camp. I’m looking forward for the next
Asian Games that will be held in the future.
